Over at Around the Block – With the Bamasteelmagnolia I did a piece today on The Plain People. As a quilter I fell in love with Amish quilts years ago and as a result became intrigued with the people behind the quilts. This piece is the first in a two part series.

Cocoa Indians
From The Modern Family Cookbook
1 cup all purpose flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt, scant
¼ cup cocoa
¼ cup shortening
¼ cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup milk
2/3 cup raisins (*we have used all nuts…which of course we know are healthy, or you could use a combination of nuts and raisins)

Raspberry Thimble Cookies
1 stick butter
1 stick margarine
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sugar
2 – ½ cups sifted flour
Raspberry jam
Heat oven to 350°.
Cream butter and margarine. Gradually add the sugar beating until light and fluffy.
Add the egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each addition.
Add sifted flour and vanilla.
