It’s Not Jacob’s Ladder

By Beverly Hicks Burch

Cross your fingers, knock on wood and say a prayer…our projected closing date is this coming Friday. It’s been a ride is all I can say…

Before we could close, the house had to have a banister and handrail on the front porch and stair…per FHA and the code in place now. Evidently it wasn’t the code when the house was built, but is now and has to be addressed.

The catch? The former imperial lord and lady of the manor…as we’ve started calling them because of their self-absorbed behavior seem to think we should be the one to put the aforementioned banister and handrail on the house they are selling. Believe me, this is not the last of this little situation…

For the closing and for the benefit of FHA, only one side needs to be up. Sounds like a bunch of technical gobbledygook to me, but, regardless, side one is complete. It has been the holiday project…leaving us with still many, many hours of indoor unpacking and setting up to do…

Can we say “Joyous House Raising” in French? Nah…I just don’t think it would have the same ring as “Noel joyeux” or “Nouvelle année heureuse”…yeah that, too.
